hathersage, derbyshire

A beautiful topographic map of the iconic village of Hathersage, located in the Peak District national park.

This intricate piece is laser cut from a single sheet of brass, which is then hand finished by Holly in her workshop in Sheffield. The contour line spacing is true to life, with contours at 10m intervals. Many wire supports are soldered onto the back of the piece, which act as anchors when the landscape is shaped and mounted. The brass is then blackened using an antiquing fluid and brushed back in parts, letting the golden hues of the metal to show through, creating contrast and highlighting areas of elevation. The river is hand engraved, cutting striking ribbons of gold through the valleys. See the illustrated map to work out the exact area covered, but in brief the piece stretches from Highlow Hall to just under Stanage Edge, with Hathersage in the centre.

Expertly framed in a black box frame, the glass is specialist art glass, which is non-reflective and dust repellent.

If you’ve seen this artwork at Bank House in Hathersage, it is available to purchase at £1,350.
