Buxton to The Hope Valley Contour Map Wall Piece

A TRULY UNIQUE 70TH BIRTHDAY GIFT WITH LAYERS OF MEANING & MEMORIES ENGRAINED…

This was a creative journey which mirrored a life journey. My wife, Anne spotted an advertisement in PURE about the Contour Map Collection and asked me if a would like a contour map for my 70th birthday. A visit to the website revealed the wonders of this art form. A map of the Peak District beckoned because this area has been a significant backdrop in my life.

The creative journey started in the virtual due to the pandemic. Telephone, zoom and email communications with Holly kickstarted the processes; what to include, what to highlight, what size? Three highlights were chosen; our home in Buxton, the church at Peak Forest where I was christened and Win Hill, the site of our 9 year old daughter’s first major hill walk with me. Gold studs mark these three steps on my life’s journey. I wore the studs for the first time on the evening of our daughter’s wedding. Visiting Holly’s workshop and seeing the map unfold brought the art to life. Frame chosen, brass back plate engraved; all the finishing touches were done.

Holly created a physical map which, in many ways, maps my life. She made the creative journey very special for Anne and myself. Holly’s creative flare coupled with her precision akin to that of a cartographer, has resulted in an exceptional and unique piece of art to be cherished forever.
