Norfolk Coastline Contour Map Wall Piece
S’s favourite thing to do it to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and retreat to the tranquillity of the salt marshes on the Norfolk coast. The map is blackened brass, with the finish rubbed back at areas of elevation and to highlight the sand bars and beaches. The marshland has been hand textured using a steel punch and hammer.
“I wanted to treat myself to a 30th birthday present and when I came across Holly’s work at a craft fair I fell in love instantly. The North Norfolk coast is a very special place to me; I love bird watching at the many coastal reserves and paddling along the vast sandy beaches, but it’s also where I feel I can fully exhale from everyday life.
I was concerned that the terrain would be too flat to work as a contour map wall piece however, but Holly reassured me from the start and even drafted two designs with different contour scales for me to choose from. Holly picked up on my love of the salt marshes and suggested using a stippled effect on the metal to highlight them; I am so pleased this was included in the design.
