Pair of matching Cumbrian Contour Maps with Heirloom Gold & Stones

This pair of maps were commissioned in remembrance of a clients’ parents, celebrating happy childhood memories.

The identical maps show an area in Cumbria where the family would always camp in the summer (pin pointed with the round gold markers) The gold topped peaks set with a diamond and a moonstone mark where the Mothers’ ashes are scattered, the gold topped peaks set with a ruby the Fathers’. The heirloom gold came from the late couples combined wedding & engagement rings, with the stones being re-purposed and given a new lease of life within the commission too.

When my mother died after a short illness last year, my brother and I were had no real issues at all when sorting her effects but we both were at a loss at what to do with her engagement ring and both her wedding ring and that of my late father which she wore around her neck.

We found Holly Clifford by accident through her mother and the rest as they say, is history. Holly guided us through a process and worked closely with us to find a way to incorporate the rings into two stunning pieces of artistic work. At every stage, she checked and checked again so that we knew exactly what to expect and we both felt closely related to the work. My only complaint…I had no idea how wonderful they would turn out. I knew that they were going to be special, but the quality of the work that Holly has produced is simply awesome. A quite outstanding experience.

One day, when either my brother or I shuffle off this mortal coil, the two pieces, and the gold from the rings, will come together again.
